Just like ENS, SNS (Solana Naming Service) is a Solana program that allows you to create a domain name that you can use as your public key, host projects on it, and much more. Bonfida is the creator of SNS and previously registered domains used to take place on their official website. However now it redirects you to another website. Here’s the step-by-step process:
Step 1: Visit https://www.sns.id/ and click on the search bar you see on the homepage to look up your desired name and see if it’s available. If you can’t think of one, now they also have built-in AI to help you pick a name.
Step 2: Once you pick an available domain, you’ll land on this screen where you can add this name to the cart.
Step 3: When you continue to the cart, you’ll see “Storage 1kB” written underneath your name listed in the cart. This needs to be edited since the account size cannot be changed after the domain is created. Click on “Edit” and select the amount of storage you think you’ll need.
Generally, 1kB is enough if you’re just going to make regular transactions, while 10kB is recommended for those who have any advanced use case.
Step 4: Proceed to checkout and you’ll be asked to connect one of the given wallet options.
Step 5: Lastly, you just have to continue to connect your wallet and make the transaction.
And there you have your .sol domain name! You can now easily trade with it, swap it as an NFT, or even host your projects on it. Having a unique domain makes you more recognizable and sharing your public address more convenient. You can even link it to your Twitter handle so that everyone knows it’s you.
