Drop your weapons for a second.
Onchain Heroes have just shipped a new game mode: Fishing Voyages!
The Fishercat’s discovered some strange new waters, and all Heroes are invited!

No need for swords and shields, just pick up a fishing rod and you’re good to go.
But first, let’s dive into why OCH introduced Fishing Voyages.

“Onchain Weapons, not Onchain Heroes?”

Fishing Voyages give idle Heroes an opportunity to be useful and earn $HERO.
“But can’t they just be sent into battles?”
Well, with the new Weapons Gacha system introduced in S2, all Heroes need to be equipped with at least ONE Weapon in order to enter battles and earn $HERO.
If players want to get Weapons, they have to spend $HERO at the Weapons Gacha
Or buy Weapon NFTs on secondary marketplaces using ETH.
This led to many players not having enough Weapons for their Heroes and as a result, many Heroes were pretty much idle, and therefore weren’t earning any $HERO for holders.

Value started to go from Heroes → Weapons.
Players with more Heroes than Weapons started selling Heroes.
The solution? Fishing Voyages!

What are Fishing Voyages?

Fishing Voyages are a new way to put idle Heroes to work for $HERO.
They’re certainly more peaceful than battles, but can still produce great rewards.
And of course, you don’t need Weapons, just a Hero with a bit patience that’s all!
It’s good news for the smaller “fish” within the OCH ecosystem (aka newbies), as the cost to participate was lowered having previously required BOTH a Hero and Weapon.
Anyways, enough on that. Let’s dive into the gameplay!

Gameplay

Heroes are staked with the Fishercat, and they sail off for 12 hours.
When they’re back, they bring fish. But not just any fish. We’re talking catches that get automatically sold for $HERO, and sometimes even rare loot on top.
There are three fishing zones to choose from, each with its own species and loot:
  • Slime Bay
  • Shroom Grotto
  • Skeet Pier (don’t ask, just fish)

Each voyage lasts 12 hours, after which your Hero returns with:
  • A main catch (sold to the Fishercat for $HERO)
  • Two potential bonus catches: one Weapon Shard and one zone-specific item

💡
Fishing is influenced by Hero Level - stronger Heroes earn more from catches and are more likely to return with bonus items too!

Sending Your Hero Out

To begin a voyage, you’ll need to pay a charter fee in $HERO.
The cost? 20 + (5 × Hero Level) $HERO
Yes, stronger Heroes cost more to send out, but they also tend to bring back better stuff!
Stuff like more valuable fish, higher bonus chances etc.
And yes, part of the entry fee goes towards the Fishercat.

💡
The Entry Fee is currently the same across all fishing zones.

Rewards

Every fishing voyage offers a few potential rewards:
  • Main Catch – Guaranteed
  • Bonus Catches – Can catch up to two per voyage
  • Leaderboard Points – You earn points based on the charter fee: 2 × Entry Fee
💡
Quick math: A level 5 Hero pays 45 $HERO and earns 90 Leaderboard points.

Main Catches

Every Hero returns with one main catch.

The Fishercat purchases the main catch immediately for $HERO.
The value is based on rarity, Hero level, and fish size.
See the chart below for the % chance of catch rarity:
Main Catch Payouts:
Rarity
Payout Formula
Legendary
1250 + (5000 × Hero Level)/(69 + Hero Level) + Size Bonus (0-500)
Regular
125 + (500 × Hero Level)/(69 + Hero Level) + Size Bonus (0-50)
Junk
Random between 2 - 5 $HERO

Bonus Catches

Heroes can return with up to two bonus catches per voyage:
  1. One Weapon Shard (everyone’s got a shot at these)
  1. One zone-specific item (unique to the zone where you fished)

These items come with in-game utility, and the chances increase with Hero level.

⚠️
Note: Weapon Shards and vouchers can't be used right now - but they will soon!
Having said that, all bonus items are currently tradeable on major marketplaces.

What’s Coming Next?

This is just the beginning for the Fishercat.
There’s talk of new zones, magical bait, enchanted rods, and even rarer fish in the waters.
As the Fishercat continues to explore, more features and gear will drop.
