Abstract is heating up.
The highly anticipated L2 launches this month. While the exact date remains TBA, marketing lead Phin has recently teased a huge marketing campaign.
Today's announcement highlights their approach to gamify blockchain interaction by rewarding real user activity. Let's break it down!
XP for Everyone
On Abstract, earning XP isn’t just for users. The platform ensures everyone—from app developers to content creators—can get a slice of the pie.
Here’s how the reward system works:
Users
By engaging with Abstract apps and exploring the chain, users earn XP - or Experience Points. XP updates weekly on Mondays, ensuring that consistent participation is rewarded.
Apart from XP, users can also earn badges. Think of your these like gaming achievements, but on Abstract. Three different tiers have been revealed: flash, weekly, and secret.
Earning badges will also grant additional XP.
Creators
Content creators are central to Abstract’s vision. Whether by streaming or creating content around Abstract, creators unlock secret badges and earn XP.
Luca has hinted at the importance of streaming before, so more info will surely come soon.
Builders
Developers behind Abstract apps aren’t left in the cold. Builders earn XP when users are using their app and they can access higher awards as their app’s impact grows, creating a scalable incentive structure.
The chain’s tiered awards program recognizes impactful apps monthly, ensuring builders’ success is tied directly to their contributions.
This trifecta of rewards stands out in a space where - quoting Abstract: "Incentives (...) have typically been short-sighted, fostering sybil users, demotivating builders, and excluding creators."
Bullish or Bearish?
This inclusive approach has sparked contrasting reactions in the Web3 community.
As HATTER points out in the tweet above, this system removes the grind and token dumps, focusing instead on curiosity and experimentation. Builders can livestream their smart contract deployments, users can explore without pressure, and creators turn their contributions into perks like travel credits or NFT whitelists.
Critics, however, remain skeptical. Blur’s response highlights that Abstract’s model might still feel like a glorified points program, despite its promises of being “different.”
Can Abstract truly deliver a unique experience, or is it just repackaging the same incentives with a new label?
