Lattice, the software innovator behind the MUD framework, has unveiled Redstone, the first plasma implementation for the OP Stack. Redstone promises to be a super cost-effective chain for onchain games, worlds, and ambitious applications.
Unlike traditional rollups, Redstone posts a compact data commitment hash to L1 instead of the entire input state. This reduces L1 security costs by over 90%, making it an efficient solution for large-scale MUD worlds.
Developed in collaboration with Optimism, Redstone leverages a permissionless challenge system on L1, ensuring data availability without relying on external consensus mechanisms.
"Redstone brings us closer to pushing the limits of onchain applications on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), aligning with Lattice's vision of a future where ambitious applications become a reality on the blockchain."
The Redstone testnet is now live, with the mainnet expected next year. Lattice aims to accelerate adoption by joining the Superchain, offering compatibility with MUD applications. Developers interested in building on Redstone can reach out to partnerships@lattice.xyz.
