Pak is a unique and exquisite creator/designer and one of the leads in the design industry. Pak* is the founder of Undream and the creator of Archillect. Pak’ latest endeavour led to Crypto Art & Pak is involved in some of the biggest and unique drops in the current industry — well-known in the space connecting with the likes of some big names such as Sotheby’s and Elon Musk.
Who is “Pak”? — Pak is anonymous so we will never actually know other than their twitter profile. I’ve interviewed Pak today so you can look into *Pak’s mind a bit more.
When you initially started to make digital art, did you have a long-term goal for the future?
I never define myself as an artist but a creator. Most of my work has the design(er) mindset - they have pre-defined purposes and expectations.
Both long term and short term, I want to leave my trace in various forms.
When did you originally discover Crypto Art?
A few days before my first drop.
How far do you think Crypto Art will progress in the upcoming years?
We're still scratching the surface. I see cryptoart as a charming entry to valuable NFTs but my expectations align with functionality, utility and purpose. An art NFT may hold the record for the most valuable NFT ever collected but I expect to see the greater portion of the exchange volume to be in NFTs with functional value.More progress in functionality, utility and lots of value play/creation - which will bring gamification. I believe it won't be about single NFTs but it'll be about contract-level innovations, even for art*.
You experiment a lot in your drops, 'The Title' was the latest — do you have a meaning behind this?
A social experiment is different from a creative experimentation. Unlike starting with a blank canvas and seeing where it goes, I predefine my expectations and try to design a path that will fulfil a purpose and communicate a message. So the experimentation isn't technical or creative, but it's social.Shortly yes, when there is a message, there surely is a meaning.
What attracts you to the tech side of Crypto Art?
Identity!
Archillect is a widely known algorithm known by the likes of Elon Musk, have you ever thought of linking it to the Crypto Art world?
Of course. I have an ongoing project to bring NFTs to masses by using the reach of various channels I have (Archillect being one of them). This is not as simple as it seems. Today, bringing an NFT to public focus also means advertising the specific platform that it's minted on. This is something I will avoid.Shortly isolating the NFT and it's creator from the platform, and bringing the creator and the work into focus as purely as possible will by my approach.
As Crypto Art continues to grow, barriers will be set in place; artists will find it difficult to enter the scene, do you think platforms could change this & why?
Platforms are start-ups that have their own incentives. Of course, they can change a lot of things, but will they prefer to do so? They can prefer to bring art* under the spotlight but then again, who will be the judge? Developers? I think this is one of the problems of the "cryptoart industry" today. Valuation of the work. More on this in the next answer!
What’s a noticeable problem you have in the current industry?
Art is definitely not an easy subject to roam around freely with anything I have in mind to make whatever assumption I have. It's very strict and very fragile at the same time. Art, just like every other thing that requires a certain lore, has its own experts and that's what we're missing in the scene today.Without correct valuation it's easy to judge something with numbers. When there is a shortage of experts of this brand new field that claims to be a portion of a much bigger thing, "art", this gap is filled by traders, flippers, investors, and such. This makes it possible for a crypto-investor with a high follower count to talk freely about "the most valuable art piece" as they already invested into the creator earlier. In the end, "art" becomes an ignorant abstract label of a branch of luxurious entertainment and short term value. A bubble.Remember, a Picasso is not recognized with the volume of sales it created, but with its purpose, innovation, struggle, message and identity.
