Infura, the top web3 API provider by ConsenSys, has partnered with 17 internet infrastructure companies, including Microsoft, Grove, and Covalent, to launch Infura’s Decentralized Infrastructure Network (DIN). DIN is a decentralized RPC-as-a-service that makes Web3 more accessible and reliable. The announcement was made during DevConnect in Istanbul, marking a step towards decentralized internet infrastructure.
DIN, led by Infura, includes partners like Microsoft, Grove, Covalent, and others. It aims to offer a new way for developers to connect to Ethereum and other major blockchains, supporting the overall goal of decentralized internet infrastructure. DIN's initial version will be federated, laying the groundwork for future decentralization.
E.G. Galano, co-founder of Infura, expressed gratitude for the partners and the community's response. DIN's launch is a milestone for one of the popular web3 API services, contributing to the support of various blockchain APIs.
DIN introduced failover protection on Polygon and Ethereum initially, allowing users to shift RPC traffic in case of an outage. In the coming weeks, Infura users can opt-in to DIN’s failover protection, reducing centralization and improving uptime for dapps and developers. The decentralized approach is expected to enhance reliability and performance.
DIN follows the ethos of Ethereum and web3 by encouraging collaboration. The network aims to work with existing RPC providers and create new infrastructure to complement current solutions. The plan is to progressively decentralize DIN, with more partners joining and a collaborative roadmap in the coming months.
The launch of DIN represents a significant move towards decentralization, reshaping the web3 development landscape. It provides developers with tools and improved reliability for their decentralized applications.
